So, What Is Counselling?
Counselling is something that helps you figure out how to work
through difficult things in your life. It’s a way to help you
manage intense emotions, sort out confusing things in your mind
and to talk about things that you might not be able to talk to
your parents, guardians or friends about.
What’s Counselling Like?
Usually when you come to see a counsellor you spend some time
just getting to know them. Depending on your age or interests,
that might mean playing a game, building something, drawing
or talking.
When you’re ready, you can start talking about different parts
of your life and what’s been happening. You don’t always have
to talk though, sometimes it’s easier to describe things through
drawing, using puppets, music or writing. It’s different for
everyone and it really depends on what you like to do.
A counsellor won’t make you talk about things that you don’t
want to and won’t rush you or ask you a million questions!
A counsellor is there to help you feel better and that means
finding the right way for you, because everyone is different.
What About Parents?
Parents or Guardians are also welcome at Youth Space. Helping a child
or young person going through any of the listed issues can be a challenging
and difficult time.
